Hey guys,
I'm quite new to the process of setting up linux installations (especially configured as dual boot). I try to set it up on my Vaio Pro 13 via usb install medium.
Basically, I've tried two approaches so far:
1. http://www.tecmint.com/install-centos-7-dual-boot-with-windows-8-uefi-firmware/
Summation: run live usb-stick, create partitioning on my own, result in two efi-boot-partitions.
2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QzbX8o7pSY
Summation: run live-usb-stick, create partitioning on my own, but select former windows efi-boot-partition and mount it under /boot/efi
The first try left me with a functioning CentOs, but it killed my windows boot entry. Trying to configure a custom boot entry for windows like in the link described or using grub2-probe failed.
The second version ran as smoothly, but after reboot it directly started windows again. I could not get CentOs to run by editing the boot-load with EasyBCD.
As I'm trying for a while, there are a few threads I read, and things that might be important: during installation of CentOs I were not able to decide where the bootloader should go to (at least I think so). Furthermore, although I was able to mount the windows partition in (1), I wasn't able to recreate the boot entry.
I hope for some new directions (or old ones, if you have an indicator what I might have done wrong), as I'd like to get the dual boot to run quite soon. If I missed any information, please ask, and I'll attach it!
Greetings

This guide will show you how you can easily Dual Boot CentOS 7 with Windows 10. This should also work for dual booting CentOS 7 with Windows 7 & Windows 8. By default, CentOS anaconda installer won’t configure grub to handle NTFS filesystem or partitions. So manual intervention is required for dual booting CentOS 7 with Windows 10. Mar 23, 2017 I have Centos7 dual-booting with Windows 10 in secure boot mode on a Dell machine. I didn't have to edit or mess with any config files. The installation steps I used:. Log in to windows, use disk management to shrink the existing ntfs windows partition, leaving the new free space unallocated. Dual Boot Windows 10 and Centos 7. Anyways, about your questions. So in my experience Windows doesn't dual-boot very well. For example your Windows boot won't let you suspend the laptop for low power, and that's a feature anytime their boot path is handled by say: grub2 menu boot. I've had some drama with windows updates clobbering the boot partition. Oct 19, 2017 Unfortunately I currently don't have access to my CentOS laptop, but since the ESP (EFI System Partition) is a regular FAT32 partition on your hard drive you should be able to take a look, e.g. From a booted Linux live image (or from within Windows 10?).

Install Centos With Windows 10
As the title suggests I would like to dual boot centos 7 and windows. I recently purchased a Razer Blade Stealth (https://www.razerzone.com/gaming-laptops/razer-blade-stealth#tech_spec) and would wish to add centos to it.
Why Centos? Where I work, commercial studio, we use programs like Maya and other autodesk apps. And I work a lot with python and spend most of my time coding, so I like to be able to mimic my work environment as much as possible. And since Maya(my main app where I work) officially supports it, I imagine I would have the easiest time supporting it there.

My situation - I am coming from Mac and havent played with Linux(outside of work) for a long time and even longer for windows. I have tried installing centos on my laptop but grub never picks up my window partition. At first I thought this was due to ntfs at the time of install, but after looking into more I find that EFI and GPT partition from w10 is also in my way. Now this is a new laptop that I have spend any time setting up that I wouldnt be ok wiping it.

So I wanted to ask about any guidance on the matter, other peoples experiences or if such is even possible because of XYZ.
I am going to try and reinstall windows via MBR, and then disable the UEFI in my razer so that centos/grub can pick up my install.
tl:dr - Windows 10 and Cent 0s7 HALP -reinstall W10 with MBR(non gpt) -disable (U)EFI for legacy bios -install centos -install ntfs -hopefully grub works.
Thoughts? and thank you!
